8-bit rave!? Where are my damn glowsticks?
Hot damn, this thing is catchy.
My inner old school gamer and musician were dancing, and so was my inner reviewer.
You could have tried varying up the chord structure to more than the same 3 or 4 chords over and over again. You could have also thought about doing a bridge or something like that. All in all, though, this song is brushing up against 8-bit perfection. It's at near Dr. Wily level perfection, which I don't say lightly. This is the equivalent of 8-bit rave or dance club music to me. That alone is worth the download to me. Once again, this song is ALMOST perfect. Hell....It's so catchy, though....I'll go ahead.
Oceans Of Oil - Sonic Rem

4 hours? How about a couple more?
I'm pretty impressed that this track only took you a whole 4 hours to complete. I think you could have done some more with the reverb and sketch with this one. I like the retooling of this classic Sonic level. As I am a Sonic fanboy, respect goes for choosing a Sonic theme. As I am a musician, I have to tell you that I think you could have done a little better. You did good, but I think if you'd put a little bit more time into it, you would have done a LOT better. I think you should check your drums and sketch a little, as I heard a random click or two (or maybe my mind is still a little fried from the lack of sleep). If you put 4 hours of work into this one, I would really love to see what 8 or even 12 hours of work would net you. It's hard to find true mixing talent these days, and you're showing me some potential. I really can't give this one a 10/10. You did technically remix the song, but you didn't make it your own remix. Kinda see what I'm saying here? Make it yours. Make a unique track, while still paying homage to the original. You have the potential, you just need to apply it to your music. As you didn't really wow me, I can't really give this a 9, either. It is pretty cool sounding, but really a different remix. I was a little deflated while litening to it, because it started off pretty awesome, but stayed on that plateau throughout. I DID give you a 5/5 for showing your talents in only 4 hours of work.
thanks. the reason it took 4 hours, is because i have the demo of FL studio 8, so saving the work is out of the picture. also, logging off closes it out. so usually when i make a song, i try to pick a time where i know i can stayed logged on for more than a day. family of four, i cant hog the comp... idk if you've listend to anything else i've posted after this song, but i seem to be showing some improvement. i was actually thinking about coming back and taking another shot at this one. i've been practicing with little 35-50 second loops that would be fit for a zelda dungeon or something of that sort. some of them are pretty catchy too. so i'm thinking that if i do decide to redo this, it will be better, completely different, and will be my own remix. i will definitly try this again now at some point
anyways, thanks again for the review, 7, and your time in listening!! glad you enjoyed it!
epic 8-bit awesomeness
Rated 4 / 5 stars October 28, 2009
I like it, but not awesomeness.
This song, much like many chiptune ones, has the potential to be awesome. You really did a good job adding complexity. I quite enjoy listening to everything you can do and squeeze out of layering everything. However, this song sounds like you were messing around with a chiptune set and found cool stuff to do. I do applaud your creativity with it, though. If this is your best song, then you haven't been around long enough. :P
Trust me, you'll do even better work as your career progresses.Keep doing what you're doing, though, because I quite like it. A little more polish and you'll hammer out some great works.

thanks what i found one of the major faults is that i really only had 2 leads in the song so i even thought the mixing and arranging wasn't really that good

Epic Battle Sequences Are Epic!
Yet again, you make an incredible Flash movie. It's been several years later since I've seen your very first Super Mario Bros. Z flash, and I'm STILL impressed with every single one of them. They are all intense and keep me on the edge of my seat. This one is no exception. Every single one of the battle sequences are just plain epic, brah. I'm really happy to see you are still making these. If I may suggest something, maybe try to release more than 1 a year. I don't want to rush your talent or anything, just saying, if this is going to be a full traditional anime season (26 episodes), then I'll be somewhere around 40 or so when this series is done. Still, I'm not going to rush you, because I will wait as long as it takes to see your next epic portion of the tale.. I love everything about this series, from the sprites, to the music, to the comedy, to the action. Everything about this series is just plain epic. It satiates every facet of my inner child and nerd. I believe you've done the same with many people here on Newgrounds, and even outside. I've shown this to people who don't game or even know what anime is, and they find your series to be just awesome. You've struck a chord with many a crowd. Even without always using words or real people. That's true talent, my friend. I hope you don't stop making these. I would love to someday download these to store and play offline. They are great to watch on trips, planes, buses, or even just for a great piece of nostalgia on a rainy day. The fact that you've made me want these is not an easy feat. Congrats on these 10 stars and the 5. You've definitely earned them.
